Korea’s Preconception Health Screening Support: Up to KRW 130,000 for …

Women aged 20–49 may receive up to KRW 130,000 for an AMH test and gynecologic ultrasound.

Support is available regardless of marital status, income, or number of children.

Applicants may receive support once in each age group—under 30, ages 30–34, and ages 35–49—for up to three times in total.

Apply through the e-Health Portal before testing, complete the tests within three months, and submit the reimbursement claim within one month of the test date.

Did you know that the Korean government helps cover the cost of health screenings before pregnancy?

Women can receive up to KRW 130,000 in financial support.

Today, I will explain who is eligible, which tests are covered, and how to apply for Korea’s Preconception Health Screening Support Program.

What Is the Preconception Health Screening Support Program?

The program helps people check their reproductive health and identify potential factors that may affect a future pregnancy.

Women aged 20 to 49 may receive up to KRW 130,000 for an anti-Müllerian hormone test, commonly known as an AMH test, and a gynecologic ultrasound.

Eligibility is not determined by income, marital status, or whether the applicant already has children.

This means that unmarried women who want to check their ovarian reserve or reproductive health may also apply for the program.

Who Is Eligible?

The program is generally available to all women and men aged 20 to 49 in Korea, regardless of marital status or whether they have children.

Foreign nationals may also be eligible if they have a Korean spouse.

Support is available once during each of the following age periods:

  • Age 29 or younger
  • Ages 30 to 34
  • Ages 35 to 49

Applicants may therefore receive support up to three times in total,

once during each age period.

Which Tests Are Covered for Women?

The program covers two major reproductive health examinations for women:

  1. An anti-Müllerian hormone test
  2. A gynecologic ultrasound

1. AMH Testing for Ovarian Reserve

The AMH test is a blood test used to estimate ovarian reserve.

You do not need to fast before the test, and AMH levels generally fluctuate less throughout the menstrual cycle than many other reproductive hormones. Therefore, the test can usually be performed at a convenient time.

In some cases, your physician may recommend coordinating the examination with your menstrual cycle,

particularly when the AMH test is being assessed together with an ultrasound or other fertility tests.

If you are seriously considering natural conception, intrauterine insemination, or IVF, your physician may provide more specific guidance about the appropriate timing and additional examinations.

The results show your AMH level and may compare it with the typical range for your age group.

However, AMH does not directly determine whether you can become pregnant naturally.

It mainly provides information about the estimated quantity of remaining eggs and should be interpreted together with your age,

ultrasound findings, menstrual history, and other clinical factors.

For example, women with polycystic ovary syndrome may have relatively high AMH levels.

Therefore, a high result does not necessarily mean that fertility can be postponed without concern.

On the other hand, some young women may have AMH levels that are lower than expected for their age.

If diminished ovarian reserve is identified early,

the patient may have time to discuss future family planning or options such as egg freezing before ovarian function declines further.

This is why checking reproductive health in advance can be valuable.

2. Gynecologic Ultrasound

A gynecologic ultrasound allows the physician to examine the uterus and ovaries.

The examination may help identify:

  • The size and appearance of the ovaries
  • Ovarian cysts or masses
  • Endometrial polyps
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Adenomyosis
  • Other structural findings that may affect reproductive health

The AMH result and ultrasound findings should be interpreted together rather than relying on a single number to evaluate fertility.

How to Apply

The application process is relatively simple.

First, search for “e-Health Portal Korea” or visit the Korean Public Health Portal, known as e보건소.

Apply online for the Preconception Health Screening Support Program.

You may also apply by visiting a local public health center.

Once your eligibility has been confirmed, a test referral will be issued.

Present the referral at a participating medical institution to receive the covered examinations.

The tests must be completed within three months of the application date.

How to Claim Reimbursement

After completing the examinations, submit your reimbursement claim through the e-Health Portal or your local public health center.

The claim must be filed within one month of the examination date.

After the required documents have been reviewed, reimbursement may be issued within three months of the claim date.

Documents required for reimbursement generally include:

  • Medical examination fee claim form
  • Medical receipt
  • Itemized medical bill
  • Copy of a bankbook or bank account document in the applicant’s name

When applying online, some application documents may be omitted because eligibility can be verified electronically.

Requirements may differ for foreign nationals, so applicants should review the latest instructions before applying.

Korea’s Preconception Health Screening Support Program is available regardless of marital status, income, or whether the applicant has children.

By receiving an AMH test and gynecologic ultrasound,

women can gain useful information about their ovarian reserve and reproductive health before planning a pregnancy.

However, an AMH result alone cannot confirm whether pregnancy is possible or predict the exact timing of menopause.

It should always be interpreted together with age, ultrasound findings, and an OB-GYN consultation.

If you are eligible, do not miss the opportunity to check your reproductive health and prepare for your future plans.
