Vaginal Tightening Surgery in Seoul: Procedure and Recovery

Vaginal laxity is assessed through pressure measurements, ultrasound, and a pelvic examination.

Surgery may be considered for severe widening or pelvic floor muscle laxity.

The procedure repairs the pelvic floor muscles and tightens the vaginal wall.

Surgery is customized to each patient’s anatomy and condition.

Intercourse may generally resume after approximately six weeks, depending on recovery.

Aging, childbirth, and other changes in health can cause significant vaginal laxity.

Some women experience frequent vaginal flatulence.

Others say that the vagina feels so loose during intercourse that they can barely tell whether their partner’s penis is inside.

At our clinic, we use a vaginal laxity assessment device to measure the internal vaginal space and pressure.

I also evaluate the condition of the vagina through a transvaginal ultrasound

and pelvic examination before recommending an appropriate treatment plan.

When Lasers or Fillers May Not Be Enough

Although it may be less common among women who have not given birth,

some patients have widening that begins at the vaginal opening.

In these cases, there may be limitations to how much a laser treatment can narrow the opening.

If the inside of the vagina is significantly widened or the pelvic floor muscles have become severely lax,

laser or filler treatments may provide some improvement but may not produce a result that fully satisfies the patient.

When Is Vaginal Tightening Surgery Considered?

The effects of vaginal laser treatments are often described as lasting approximately one year,

while vaginal fillers may last from one year to several years, depending on the product and the patient.

For women who want a more substantial degree of tightening from a single procedure, vaginal tightening surgery may be considered.

Vaginal laser and filler treatments have become more widely available, so fewer women now undergo surgery than in the past.

Fewer women are also giving birth vaginally, and many now have only one or two children.

However, even a single delivery may significantly weaken the vaginal and pelvic floor tissues in some women, preventing them from fully returning to their previous condition.

How Is Vaginal Tightening Surgery Performed?

Vaginal tightening surgery is also commonly known as vaginoplasty or vaginal rejuvenation surgery.

During the procedure, the vaginal mucosa is carefully separated from the underlying tissue,

and a portion of the excess mucosa may be removed.

The loosened and separated pelvic floor muscles are carefully identified and brought together with sutures.

The vaginal wall is then sutured while preserving the natural folds of the vaginal mucosa as much as possible.

Patients may experience tightness or discomfort while walking or sitting for approximately one week.

However, many patients can return to light daily activities after resting for one or two days.

When Is Perineoplasty Performed Together?

Perineoplasty may be performed together with vaginal tightening surgery

when the perineum is too short, recurrent vaginitis is present, or significant changes have developed around a previous episiotomy site.

The exact surgical plan should be determined after examining both the vagina and perineum.

The experience and skill of the OB-GYN surgeon can significantly influence the surgical outcome.

If only the vaginal opening is narrowed without properly evaluating the internal vaginal space, penetration may become difficult. In severe cases, the patient may experience pain or be unable to have intercourse comfortably.

The goal is not simply to make the vaginal opening as narrow as possible. The vagina must be tightened in a way that maintains both function and comfort.

Special Considerations Before and After Menopause

Extra care is necessary for women who are approaching menopause or have already reached menopause.

As estrogen levels decline, vaginal tissue may become thinner and the vaginal opening may undergo further atrophy.

If the opening is made excessively narrow, vaginal atrophy may worsen discomfort and lead to more severe pain during intercourse.

On the other hand, if the vagina is tightened too little, the patient may be disappointed

after enduring the discomfort and recovery associated with surgery.

For this reason, the degree of tightening must be carefully tailored to each individual.

Why the Partner’s Size May Be Considered

I sometimes ask patients to measure their partner’s penile circumference when fully erect.

The average penile circumference among Korean men has been reported to be approximately 11.5 to 12 cm,

with an average length of around 12 cm.

Considering the partner’s size may help the surgeon determine an appropriate degree of vaginal narrowing

and improve comfort and satisfaction during intercourse.

When the internal vaginal wall is tightened appropriately, it can provide a firmer, more supportive sensation during penetration.

Customized Surgical Design

In our surgical approach, we primarily reduce and reinforce the lower two-thirds of the vaginal wall,

where tightening can provide a more noticeable supportive effect.

It is generally unnecessary to narrow the deepest area where the tip of the penis reaches,

as excessive tightening in this area may provide limited benefit.

Before surgery, we carefully examine the vagina and plan the length and extent of repair according to the patient’s anatomy.

Sexual intercourse can generally be resumed after approximately six weeks, provided that healing is progressing normally.

Postoperative care is also important. Patients may be instructed to take sitz baths as part of their recovery.

At DAUM Women’s Clinic, we also provide radiofrequency aftercare to help the vaginal mucosa recover

while maintaining moisture and supporting tissue healing.

Recovery time and postoperative instructions may vary according to the surgical extent and individual healing process.

Feeling that the vagina has become loose, stretched, or sagging can affect not only physical comfort but also confidence and intimacy.

For women with severe vaginal laxity, an appropriately planned surgical procedure may help restore vaginal support and confidence.

The most important step is to accurately evaluate your current vaginal condition.

At DAUM Women’s Clinic, we assess each patient’s vaginal pressure, internal structure, pelvic floor muscles, symptoms, and menopausal status before providing an individualized consultation and treatment plan.
