Today, I’d like to talk about the derogatory term "Bulgogi woman,

" which is sometimes used to refer to women with labial hypertrophy.

I didn't know much about this at first either, 

but a patient who underwent labiaplasty shared her story with me directly.

In cases of labial hypertrophy, the edges of the labia minora are usually elongated 

and darkened. People who look at this shape use that term to mock women with larger labia minora.

They even make reckless assumptions about a woman’s sexual history, 

claiming her labia aren't pink and look like dark bulgogi instead. 

One patient shared how deeply hurt she felt when her boyfriend told her,

"You're so dark and stretched out... you must have done it too much.

" She was only able to bring this story up after getting labiaplasty.

In reality, when labial hypertrophy is present, the labia minora protrude past the labia majora. 

Because this area experiences continuous movement and friction,

 it frequently becomes darker and more stretched.

The surgical procedure itself brightens the appearance simply 

by removing the severely pigmented edges.
