What does clitoral surgery involve? Is it clitoral lifting?

I would like to explain what clitoral surgery is.

To begin with the conclusion, this procedure does not involve operating on the clitoral glans itself.

Instead, it focuses on reshaping and reducing the clitoral hood (prepuce).

When the clitoral hood is enlarged or lax, secretions can accumulate between the folds, which may cause odor and lead to poor hygiene. This can increase the risk of conditions such as vaginitis or itching.

In addition, when the clitoral hood excessively covers the clitoris, it can also contribute to reduced sexual sensitivity.

This procedure, which has long been known as clitoral unhooding, exposes the clitoris by gently lifting and adjusting the hoodsimilar in concept to circumcision, but anatomically and surgically very different.

When performed appropriately, this can make the area more sensitive to stimulation and help improve sexual satisfaction.

However, if the clitoral hood is removed too aggressively, patients may experience discomfort or pain in daily life due to friction.

Excessive stimulation can also cause discomfort rather than pleasure.

That is why proper balance is extremely important.

When the surgery is performed correctly and conservatively, it can improve both hygiene and sexual satisfaction.

One of our patients who had labiaplasty at our clinic recommended clitoral lifting very strongly, saying, “Don’t even question itjust do it.”

This highlights how important it is to carefully assess the appropriate extent of clitoral surgery for each individual.

In my practice, I further classify clitoral procedures into two categories:

·Clitoral unhooding, which focuses on making the clitoris visible

·Clitoral hood lifting, which refines and reshapes the hood

Rather than simply pulling the hood upward, the degree of clitoral exposure can be precisely controlled depending on how the surgery is performed.

This is achieved by adjusting the incision method and the direction of suturing.

My preferred approach to clitoral hood lifting is to maintain a natural appearance

where the clitoris is subtly covered at rest, like wearing a light cap,

and becomes naturally exposed during arousal.

In a sense, it creates two different states, depending on stimulation.

Patients with labia minora hypertrophy often also have laxity of the clitoral hood and surrounding folds.

In such cases, when performing labiaplasty, clitoral hood lifting or wrinkle reduction is often done simultaneously.

This does not significantly increase pain, and addressing everything in one procedure is often more efficient than doing separate surgeries.

Most patients do not want the clitoris to be fully exposed at all times in daily life,

which is why clitoral hood lifting, rather than full unhooding, is the most commonly chosen option.

For those who are wondering whether clitoral surgery is necessary, I hope this explanation is helpful.

Clitoral hood lifting may be beneficial for women who feel their sexual sensitivity has decreased,

who are unsure what orgasm feels like,

or who notice reduced sensation compared to the past.
