What If I Lose Sexual Sensation After Labiaplasty?

"Doctor, if I have labiaplasty, will I lose sexual sensation?"

This is one of the most common questions I hear during consultations.

Patients with significant labial hypertrophy often have not only enlarged labia minora but also excess clitoral hood tissue covering the clitoris. In these cases, clitoral hood reduction may be performed together with labiaplasty to achieve a more balanced and natural result.

However, the clitoris is the primary organ responsible for female sexual sensation. It contains approximately 8,000 nerve endings, making it one of the most sensitive structures in the human body.

Although only a small portion is visible externally, the clitoris extends internally and is much larger than many people realize. The dorsal nerve of the clitoris and important blood vessels travel along its upper portion.

For this reason, performing excessive excision or dissection without a thorough understanding of the anatomy may increase the risk of nerve injury and, in rare cases, could result in decreased sensation or changes in sexual function.

When performing clitoral hood reduction, the incision must be carefully planned with full consideration of the underlying nerves and blood vessels.

The incision should never be placed in areas where major nerves travel. Instead, only the necessary tissue should be conservatively and precisely corrected.

When surgery is performed with a thorough understanding of the anatomy and careful preservation of the neurovascular structures, normal sensation can be maintained. In fact, some patients report greater satisfaction after surgery because the excess clitoral hood tissue no longer covers the clitoris as much, allowing stimulation to be transmitted more naturally.

Of course, every patient is different, and individual anatomy and the healing process can influence the final outcome.

Labiaplasty is not simply a cosmetic procedure to improve appearance. It is a delicate operation that requires careful consideration of both function and anatomy.

If you are considering labiaplasty, we encourage you to have a thorough consultation to determine the most appropriate surgical approach for your individual anatomy and goals.

At Gangnam DAUM Women’s Clinic, we are committed to helping you make an informed decision and achieve safe, natural-looking results.

                     [ A Note from Director Kim Min-kyoung ]

The most important aspect of labiaplasty is not how much tissue is removed, but how carefully important anatomical structures are preserved while maintaining their function.

A thorough understanding of the underlying nerves and blood vessels, combined with extensive surgical experience, helps achieve natural-looking results while preserving sensation and function.

Rather than worrying based on misconceptions, I encourage you to seek accurate medical advice and choose the surgical approach that is most appropriate for your individual anatomy.

I hope that Gangnam DAUM Return Labiaplasty can provide reassurance and help guide you toward the right decision.
