A Patient Case of Labiaplasty in a Patient with Vaginal Folds
Today, we would like to introduce a patient case involving
labial wing hypertrophy accompanied by vaginal folds,
which caused ongoing discomfort.
What kind of discomfort can vaginal folds cause?
The area below the vaginal opening—
the perineum, which lies between the anus and the vaginal opening—
can sometimes appear loose or folded,
often together with enlarged labial wings.
Patients with this condition often experience discomfort every time they sit,
as the folded skin and loose tissue become compressed.
They may also find it difficult to maintain proper hygiene after using the restroom,
because the overlapping skin makes cleansing more challenging.
When the labial wings are also enlarged,
the skin tends to fold even more,
leading to increased friction and making discomfort and skin irritation more likely.
For this reason, when vaginal folds are present together with labial wing hypertrophy,
it is often recommended to perform labiaplasty and vaginal fold (perineal fold) correction together.
When these areas are addressed at the same time,
the overall contour becomes much cleaner,
discomfort during sitting or daily activities is significantly reduced,
and maintaining hygiene becomes much easier and more comfortable.
Before surgery, many patients ask:
“Will the incision line be visible?”
“Will there be noticeable scarring?”
That is why we have prepared a video explaining the incision line
using a real surgical case as an example.
As illustrated in the diagram,
the area is refined into a single, smooth line.
To summarize the conclusion first:
when the incision is designed and closed neatly in a single smooth line,
it is barely noticeable.
We did not extend the incision into the anal mucosa
and carefully refined the area with precision.
After surgery, the line healed smoothly and cleanly.
The patient later shared,
“Doctor, I feel so much more comfortable now.
I really wish I had done this sooner instead of enduring it for so long.”
Hearing those words is the greatest reward for me.
[ A Note from Director Kim Min-kyoung ] Vaginal folds or perineal laxity are not merely “cosmetic concerns.” They can lead to discomfort while sitting, hygiene difficulties, and a decline in psychological confidence.
When planning labiaplasty, it is important to receive an accurate evaluation from an experienced specialist to determine whether there are additional areas that should be corrected together.
Even addressing a single small fold with care can make a meaningful difference in daily comfort, hygienic satisfaction, and emotional confidence.
At Gangnam DAUM Women’s Clinic, we aim to achieve natural, smooth contouring with minimal visible scarring through our refined return labiaplasty technique.
We hope this case may serve as a small source of encouragement for those who are concerned about vaginal folds.
