A Patient Case of Labiaplasty with Concomitant Hymenal Hypertrophy
The patient we would like to introduce today presented
with labial wing hypertrophy accompanied by hymenal hypertrophy.
The labial tissue was thick and had multiple folds,
and part of the hymen was excessively developed.
Because of this, the patient reported discomfort,
describing a loose or dangling sensation during daily cleansing.
In this case, surgical excision needed to be performed close to the urethral area,
while carefully preserving the normal portion of the hymen.
For this reason, thorough preoperative counseling was essential,
including detailed discussion of the design and surgical process
for both the labia minora and hymenal area.
Beginning at the consultation stage,
we provided comprehensive explanations of the anatomical structure,
surgical design, and expected recovery process
for the labia minora and hymenal regions,
and proceeded with treatment accordingly.
The hymenal area was incised and cauterized simultaneously using a laser,
which eliminated the need for separate suturing.
As a result, the procedure was completed with minimal bleeding and little to no pain.
By addressing both the labial wing hypertrophy and the hymenal hypertrophy together,
issues such as foreign body sensation during movement, hygiene-related discomfort,
and friction-related irritation were improved at the same time.
The patient shared that daily life now feels much lighter and more comfortable.
When performing labiaplasty,
it is important not to focus solely on reshaping the labial wings.
Addressing associated concerns—such as skin tags, vulvar masses,
or partial hymenal hypertrophy—at the same time
is a key factor in achieving higher surgical satisfaction.
At Gangnam DAUM OB-GYN Clinic,
we strive not to overlook even the smallest discomfort.
Through thorough consultation and meticulous surgical design,
we do our utmost to help each patient achieve
the most comfortable and natural results possible.
[ A Note from Director Kim Min-kyoung ] Discomfort related to labial hypertrophy and the hymenal area may not be visible from the outside, yet it often affects the small moments of daily life.
Whenever patients find the courage to share concerns they have kept to themselves for a long time, I feel the depth of that trust and emotion very deeply.
When, after surgery, a patient smiles quietly and says, “Doctor, I feel so much more comfortable now,” those simple words stay with me for a long time.
At Gangnam DAUM OB-GYN Clinic, we will continue to provide care with sincerity and dedication, so that each patient can regain a more comfortable and confident everyday life. |
